I believe Palm V was the best PDA(Personal Digital Assistant) and handheld device of all time, including modern smartphones. (Just in case you don’t know what Palm V is, follow the link : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_V )
I used Palm V for
- Scheduling (Calendar) for the most part
- memo, to do list
- e-book reader (even though converting files for Palm was painful)
- News reader (RSS reader) (At that time, wireless connectivity was scarce)
- Address book
I especially like to form factor of Palm V. It was
- shaped to perfectly fit in the palm of a hand, not too big, not too small
- small enough to put in the pocket, especially in trouser pockets
- very light to carry and use
- didn’t need to worry about battery time since it lasted days
- grayscale screen was very easy to read even in the sun, and yet, not slow as modern e-ink
- exterior was solid and just well-made
I haven’t found the device with all these pros even in 2021.
Some added bonus (compared to modern phones) of Palm V are
- had a pen to write with (it was just a plastic though)
- looks cool, futuristic, professional
- separate device means you can still know phone numbers and your schedule even when the phone battery dies
- separate device means you can write a note when talking on the phone
- separate device means you can check your schedule when talking on the phone
- graffiti allowed to save time when writing with a pen
- use Android as Operating System and Google Store for app compatibility
- Wifi capability
- Bluetooth capability
- Voice recognition for easy input
- 4G connection will be wonderful, but not a must
